Overview

Boiler Installation & Repair in Coventry — what it is, who it's for, when it's needed.

What we do

Boiler breakdown diagnostics and repair (all major brands), annual boiler servicing, new boiler installation (combi, system, regular/heat-only), boiler relocation, gas pipework upgrades to support higher kW outputs, smart thermostat integration with new installs, system upgrades from open-vent to sealed combi, and full warranty registration on every new boiler.

Who it's for

Anyone with a boiler that's broken down, short-cycling, locking out, losing pressure, or making noises it shouldn't. Homeowners with a boiler over 12 years old considering a planned replacement before next winter. Landlords needing reliable boilers in let properties. Anyone whose energy bills feel out of step with the home's size.

When you need a boiler engineer

No heat, no hot water, F-codes or E-codes on the display, dropping pressure below 1 bar repeatedly, banging or kettling noises, visible leaks from the case, or a boiler simply approaching end-of-life. Symptoms don't fix themselves.

Why a professional boiler install matters

A boiler is the most expensive single appliance in most homes — typically £2,500–£4,500 installed. Done correctly with a proper system flush, magnetic filter, system filling loop and Boiler Plus compliance, it'll run 12–15 years. Done badly, it's a 7-year part. The install matters more than the brand.

What happens if it's ignored

The cost of waiting.

Boiler problems don't get better with denial. Every week you push the repair is a week the system degrades further.

Common mistakes we see

  • Topping up pressure repeatedly without finding the leak — usually the expansion vessel or PRV (pressure relief valve).
  • Replacing the boiler without flushing the existing system — voids the warranty on most major brands.
  • Sizing the boiler to the radiators rather than the heat loss — installs are routinely 30–50% oversized in Coventry housing.
  • Skipping the magnetic filter on a new install — Worcester, Vaillant and Ideal all now require it for full warranty.
  • Accepting the first 'condemnation' verdict — always worth a second opinion, often a £150 repair instead of a £3,500 replacement.

Mid-winter no-heat

Boilers fail at the moment they're worked hardest — typically the first hard frost of December. That's also when parts are slowest to arrive and engineer diaries are fullest.

Heat exchanger failure

The most expensive boiler part. £600–£1,200 in parts alone, often more than half the value of a new boiler. Caused almost entirely by sludge — preventable.

PCB failure

Printed circuit boards fail when they get wet (case leak) or run hot (poor ventilation). £350–£550 each. Often the moment most homeowners decide to replace.

Carbon monoxide risk

A boiler with blocked condensate trap or partially blocked flue can spill combustion products back into the room. Working CO alarms are mandatory; properly serviced boilers are mandatory; we test both.

Our process

A clear, documented system — every visit, every job.

  1. 01

    1. Free survey for installs / fixed-price diagnostic for repairs

We come out, measure heat loss properly, check pipework, flue route and gas supply size. For breakdowns we diagnose at a fixed price — no hourly clock.

  2. 02

    2. Honest recommendation

If your existing boiler is repairable economically, we'll say so — even if you came in expecting to replace. If it's genuinely end-of-life, we'll explain why with evidence.

  3. 03

    3. Written quote, two or three options

Like-for-like, mid-spec, and premium options where appropriate. All-inclusive — no hidden 'powerflush extras' added later.

  4. 04

    4. Installation in 1–2 days

Typical combi swap completes in a day. System flush, new magnetic filter, condensate route, Boiler Plus-compliant controls, all included as standard.

  5. 05

    5. Commissioning, warranty registration & handover

Commissioning report, Benchmark book filled in, manufacturer warranty registered online with you copied in. Notification to local building control where required.

Benefits

What you actually get.

Up to 10-year warranty

Manufacturer-backed on Worcester Greenstar, Vaillant ecoTEC, and Ideal Max ranges when installed by an accredited engineer (us).

Lower running costs

A correctly-sized A-rated combi typically cuts gas bills 15–25% vs a 15-year-old non-condensing boiler.

Fast response on breakdowns

Most CV postcode breakdowns reached same day. Common parts (PRVs, expansion vessels, diverter valves) carried on the van.

No upsell

If it's a £140 fix, we'll do the £140 fix. We make more long-term by being the engineer you call next time than by overselling once.

Notified and certified

All new installs notified to building control (Gas Safe notifies for us). Benchmark warranty book filled in correctly. You keep the paperwork — vital for resale.

Tidy work

Old boiler removed and disposed of, packaging recycled, pipework boxed in or routed neatly. Photo report on completion.

In depth

Materials, methods and variations.

Boiler installation is a system engineering job, not a product swap. Brand matters less than sizing, controls, water treatment and commissioning. Here's what shapes our recommendations across Coventry properties.

Discuss your project

Boiler types

Combi: hot water on demand, no cylinder, suits 1–2 bathroom homes with adequate mains pressure (typical CV2/CV6/CV7 stock). System: works with a cylinder, suits 2+ bathroom homes and properties with poor mains pressure. Regular (heat-only): retains an F&E tank in the loft, suitable where wholesale system change isn't appropriate. We size each correctly to the property — not by guesswork.

Brands we install

Worcester Bosch (Greenstar 4000, 8000 Lifestyle, 8000 Style) — strong warranty, widely available parts, premium tier. Vaillant (ecoTEC plus, ecoTEC pro) — quietest in class, excellent reliability, mid-to-premium tier. Ideal (Logic Max, Vogue Max) — strong UK-built option, excellent value with 10-year warranty when registered. Baxi (Platinum, 800) — solid choice on tighter budgets with up to 10-year warranty.

Sizing methodology

Room-by-room heat loss to BS EN 12831 using fabric U-values, ventilation rate and design conditions for the West Midlands. Hot water demand calculated by simultaneous draw-off and DHW recovery rate. We don't oversize — oversizing causes short-cycling, higher bills and shorter boiler life.

What's included in a Boiler Plus-compliant install

From April 2018, every new gas combi install in England must include one of: weather compensation, load compensation, smart controls with automation and optimisation, or FGHR (flue gas heat recovery). We default to smart controls (Hive/Nest/Tado) as the most useful option for most homeowners.

System protection

Powerflush or chemical clean on every replacement install — non-negotiable for warranty validity. Magnetic filter on the return (Adey MagnaClean Pro2 or Spirotech). Sentinel X100 inhibitor dosed to spec. Filling loop fitted properly with double check valve.

Residential vs commercial

Domestic gas boilers up to 70kW we cover routinely. Commercial gas boilers (over 70kW or in commercial premises) require additional COMCAT qualifications — we'll refer to a trusted commercial installer where the job exceeds our scope.
